Chris Cairns arrives in NZ for Rail Safety Awareness Week

Passionate rail safety campaigner Chris Cairns arrives in New Zealand today to be involved in awareness raising activities for Rail Safety Awareness Week 2009.  The week runs from 27 July – 2 August.

Chris will be involved in a wide range of activities during the week, starting in Christchurch on Monday 27 July.  There he will visit the children at Papanui and Hornby Schools, and will be involved in a publicity initiative at the Langdons Road level crossing and at a skate park near to a railway line in the city.

In Wellington on Tuesday 28 July, Chris will be involved in an awareness raising activity at a Silverstream level crossing, with newly appointed Associate Transport Minister Hon Nathan Guy.  He will also be a key speaker at a function at the Wellesley Club which will mark the week.

Finally Chris will be in Auckland on Thursday and Friday (30 and 31st July) where he will be speaking at the assemblies of two West Auckland secondary schools, as well as meeting local politicians and the safety team at Veolia transport.  Chris will also be meeting up with a survivor of a level crossing accident in West Auckland in 2007.
