Day Ten - Motutere to Turangi

I think I can safely speak for our crew when I say everyone was looking forward to Day Ten! Why?? Because after a quick 19km morning that we banged out in two and half hours everyone had some time to themselves.

It seems old Selwyn was right yet again….after consulting with Christchurch Podiatrist Bruce Baxter the two came up with an effective treatment for my achilles injury and I walked pain free today. Thanks boys!

So with the sun shining and my leg feeling strong, I headed out to Wairakei Resort Golf Course with the boys for 18 holes. Unfortunately after leading for fifteen holes I suffered severe fatigue and finished dreadfully. However this should not detract from the colossal comeback by charity manager Patrick Jackson to take the spoils. Crew member Wayne Wilson was the third member of our golfing party and his game belied his twenty two handicap!!

We left Taupo late this afternoon for Turangi where we will be for one night before hitting the unknown in Desert Rd. We have heard stories of snow, sleet and very cold winds…and can only hoping we were being stirred up!!

As a special treat for the crew we had a box of “SKINS” lycra wear arrive today for everyone. Little did I know it would create such a stir amongst the troops… I will let the pictures explain what I mean on this one!
