Day Thirty-four - Kaiapoi to Christchurch

Everyone was geared up for today as it was just a short little walk of 14km. The spirits of the team seemed high as we were on our second to last day!!! We had a few walkers come and join Cairnsy today including employees from KiwiRail, Shell, ONTRACK and local Christchurch MP Clayton Cosgrove.

It was a beautiful day and the walk went smoothly with everyone enjoying the beautiful weather that Christchurch put on for us. As we came closer to the finish we bumped into the World Harmony Run. The girls were great to chat with and we wish them all the best with the rest of their run.

At 11.30am the team thought it would be a great idea to have one refreshing drink, so we went to a local pub in Shirley called O’Shea’s where the owner Rob McIntosh put together a lovely platter of food for us to graze on. Thanks to Rob and his staff!

The intense game of poker to win the poker table that has been on tour with us the whole time. It shares many of memory with us so we all had to be on our game. With the final battle being between the littlest man on tour Paddy (aka Meat) and Scotty, it was looking as though Meat might take it out but then Scotty came from behind to become Poker Champ and walk away the table! Well done Scotty!

After the pub the team relaxed for the afternoon to prepare for the last day of the walk. Until this point we never really thought the walk is almost over, it has really hit home now that we are so close to such a great achievement.

One day to go!
