Day Five - Cambridge to Tirau

I have convinced my support crew that 10am is a much more respectable starting time (which didn’t take a whole lot of convincing!). We packed up the cars once again this morning and headed out from the Shell Service Station in Cambridge for Tirau.

The Rock provided the public with some energy drinks this morning and I had visitors of all ages come and say hi and share a story or two with me. I would like to send out a special thank you to Jean Rogers from ONTRACK Hamilton….her enthusiasm and friendliness helped up to raise our largest donation collection so far! Mark Burton the Labour MP for Waikato and Jackie from The North Face also kept me company as I walked through the town this morning….thank you to you both!

Today was our last day with Gareth (our motorcycle police officer) so the crew were paying extra attention to what he was up to, as the pressure will be on tomorrow.

We were lucky with weather and I didn’t need to radio for the rain jacket today (always a bonus!). We were very well supported on the highway with several people pulling over to give donations, we were lucky enough to receive two “dead cow” cheques from a couple of obliging farmers and I also had a lovely couple run across their property with one of their tiny little lambs to wish me well on my journey.

As I arrived into Tirau I was met by two large groups of children from Karapiro Primary School and Tirau Primary School. The children had made a fantastic large sign and all of the children contributed gold coin donations and gave me high fives as I went by. Thank you so much for your effort!!

We are off to the Tokoroa RSA tonight and I'm looking forward to starting at the Big Dog tomorrow morning.
