Day Twelve - Waihohonu Track to Waiouru

So a few quiet one’s with the lads last night turned into a few more. There were a few very funny moments (most of which we unfortunately can’t share here) however our two “Brothers From Other Mothers” donned their SKINS outfits once again, which initially caused a little bit of a stir in the suit and tie dress requirement area….however as the night went on the SKINS boys were embraced by their new friends and they were treated as one of the boys!! Thank you to all of the Officer’s at the Waiouru Army Base for putting on a great night for our group.

We all voted on a later start this morning after the evening’s activities….we started where we left off yesterday (roughly at the half way point between Turangi and the Army base). Two of the officers from the base walked with us today, MAJOR BRETT STOTT and MAJOR ASHLEY WALKER. The boys were carrying 25kg packs which made me feel a little soft (until I remembered that I have to walk for another three weeks yet!) and they didn’t miss a step.

Once back on track the rest of the day seemed to breeze on by….we stopped at the Shell in Waiouru and had a quick bite to eat at the Subway in town, who put on a complimentary feed for the crew (thanks guys!!). Then it was back to the base for a warm shower and rub from Selwyn. It will be a very early night tonight then back on the road for another 30km in the morning. See you all tomorrow!
