Day Thirteen - Waiouru to Taihape
It was a sad to say goodbye to our hosts at the Waiouru Army base….a special thank you to Major Brett Stott who was a fantastic host and looked after our entire crew….top man!
As we were around 5km out of Waiouru we spotted a sheep literally stuck in the mud! Our resident Financial Director David Craig was given the tour’s Humanitarian Award as he scaled the fence and lifted the distressed sheep to safety! Well done Dave!!
We descended from the lofty heights of Waiouru (which is around 1600ft above sea level) down to Taihape which was an easier day on our lungs than when we made our way up the Desert rd! The weather was again flawless and we were in t-shirts and shorts by the end of the day.
The crew headed out for the evening to the local pub (The Stock and Station) and to Chris Barnett and Taihape Working Men’s Club while I stayed in to ice and elevate my legs (to try to reduce the build up of fluid I have been experiencing).
Looking forward to a short 20km day tomorrow….see you then!
