Day Twenty-three - Picton to Blenheim

After a brilliant cocktail function at the Wellesley Club in Wellington last night the crew were up bright and early (some a little brighter than others!!)….for a 7.15am departure from the Holiday Inn on Featherston Street. Thank you to all of those who gave up their evening and dug deep to support our cause.

Once the cars were all packed up we made our way down to the Inter-Islander Ferry to cross the Cook Strait over to the South Island. We were well taken care of by Faye Allison who made sure we had our own lane below deck for our vehicles (and we were first off!!) as well as accommodating us in the Kaitaki Plus Lounge where my crew were able to have breakfast and (for those who needed it after the evenings activities!) a good nap. Thank you to Faye for looking after us once again.

Once we hit Picton we arrived at the Shell Station on High Street. I ran into an old mate Rod Thomas at the Picton Fire Department next door and was then greeted by a large group of children from the Picton School.

With Picton being my hometown and the stretch from Picton to Blenheim holding the majority of my extended family I was not short of walkers today. It was a fantastic boost for me to have the support of all those who made the 28km trip with me and I would like to thank you all for your time and efforts.

Our crew was invited along to the Marlborough Combined Club last night where I called a few numbers for the raffle and my crew and I were provided with a delicious roast dinner. A special thanks to all the staff at the Marlborough Combined Club, your hospitality was greatly appreciated by my team and it is nice to be back on the Mainland.
